Dunk SB Condition 1/10

Don’t you just love a fresh pair of kicks? Like the ones above? Hahaha

These not-so-fresh SBTGs belong to my good friend Warren Stuart aka WZA.

Warren is sponsored by Nike HK, so he can afford to thrash shoes that other people spend days queuing up for.

But hey, SBs are SUPPOSED to be for skating, right?

I mean isn’t that what they were DESIGNED for?

Anyway, Warren was in town for a couple of days, so we hit my local skate spot for a session.

Dunk SB Condition 1/10

I haven’t skated with Warren for like 15 years, so it was pretty freaky lining up to do flatground tricks with him at the skate park.

Back in the day, a couple of years after I met him, Warren partnered with another good friend of mine to open Hong Kong’s first PROPER skate shop – the now legendary BFD.

BFD = Big Fucking Deal

Warren’s partner = Tabo (RIP)

Warren is one of the founding members of the Hong Kong X-Federation and is the coach of the Hong Kong skateboarding team.

He was the guy behind the recently released Nike X X-Fed shoe (Nike spent USD100,000.00 on the silk screen tooling for his shoe.)

He also runs a website called hkskateboarding.com and is one of the partners of Six Keyz, a private indoor mini-ramp/art gallery in Hong Kong.

But all this is what he does in his SPARE TIME.

Warren’s day job is actually working for a company called G4S.

And I thought I was a busy motherfucker.

Dope is ONE.

The past 12 months has flown by so quickly it’s not even funny. It seems like only yesterday that I was still fuming at our contractor for fucking up everything and delaying our opening by a month and making me lose RM30K in the process.

Well, that was a year ago, and it’s been a non-stop rollercoaster ride for me since Day One.

I did a lot of travelling.

I met a lot of people.

Some people were super cool.

Some were royal assholes.

Dope was a departure of sorts from the two things I have been associated with for a long time – design and music.

Fashion, of course, is something that’s always been close to my heart and being able to work with labels/people whom I love and respect is a dream come true for me.

Dope is ONE.

So to celebrate Dope’s 1st anniversary, I’ve decided to throw a party.

Yeah yeah yeah … so what? We’ve thrown so many parties during the last year anyway, right? Well, this time, the party will be open to the PUBLIC and not just Dope members.

The party will take place at Audees in Penang, which is a swish bar/restaurant located on Burma Road, which is 5 minutes away from our office.

Music will be provided by the trusty trio of myself, Jon Chen & DJ G. I promise you won’t hear better music on Penang island that night.

I’ve also decided to have a “lucky draw” … kekeke … sounds a bit cheesy? But when the prizes are clothes from Mishka, Irons, Know1edge, etc … it doesn’t sound so bad, huh?

I’d like to thank everyone for their support during the past one year, and I hope to be able to bring you events like this for many more years to come!

Dope 1st Anniversary Party

Date: Monday 30 April 2007 (Eve Of Labour Day)
Time: 10PM ~ 2AM
Venue: Audees, 188 Jalan Burma, 10350 Penang
Dress: Streetwear/Sneakers/Party Wear*
Entry: Free

*we have the right to refuse entry to those who we feel are inappropriately dressed.

See you there!

Suvarnabhumi Airport

From my last post, you may have gathered that I was in my favorite city in the world – Bangkok. I’ve been going there roughly once every month since last June and the place never ceases to amaze me.

I’ve met some amazing people and made some really good friends along the way, which makes it all the more tempting for me to fly there whenever I have a few days to spare.

This time however, I was going to meet family in Bangkok. More specifically, my brother Anthony.

I haven’t seen my brother for like 2 years, so when he told me he was thinking of taking a vacation there with his wife, then we arranged to meet there.

So we spent a couple of days catching up and I took them around to all my favorite wining/dining/shopping spots in Bangkok.

Here is Anthony and his lovely wife Queenie … the photo is taken at my favorite bar in the world – Sirocco @ The Dome Hotel:

Queenie & Anthony

Sirocco is located on the 64th floor of The Dome Hotel and has a view that you can’t see in too many places around the world.

Not only is the view unparalleled, the environment is also pretty hard to beat. It is probably the most beautiful bar in the world (to me) … I’ve said it before on my old blog, but I’ll say it again here: If there’s a bar you MUST visit in the world, it’s the Sirocco:

Another reason why I was in Bangkok was to get inked again.

I was recommended a tattoo artist by my good friend Nat (co-owner of Modified w/ Futura) and I’m happy to say I’ve finally found someone who I have confidence in to make permanent squiggles on my body. Poo is the best tattoo artist in Bangkok, with maybe the exception of her husband Leck.

Nat took this photo while Poo was operating on me … hahaha:

New Ink!

I also had an appointment to visit another good friend of mine (and now client also) – Mart Edinga, a Dutchman living in exile … hahaha … no, he actually loves Bangkok more than I do and moved there permanently.

Mart is opening up a new streetwear store in Bangkok called Zig Zag (yes THE Zig Zag where you’ll be able to cop our Dope X Subcrew trucker when it comes out) and here I’m proud to give you all a WORLD EXCLUSIVE of what Zig Zag is gonna look like:

Zig Zag

Speaking of world exclusives, here’s ANOTHER one – Nat let me have a first look at samples from Futura/Modified’s NEW collection for Portable Picnic Players.

Fucking fine, fucking fresh, fucking must have.

I know a LOT of people have been waiting for the follow-up to the first collection that debuted last year, but I can assure you that it was worth the wait. Fans of everything Futura will not be disappointed!

Portable Picnic Players

I’ve given some exclusive pics to my friends at We Love Hype, so pop on over there to see more from the LONNNGGGGG awaited new collection of Portable Picnic Players!
