Fresh new swag from DC Shoes!

Work is crazy hectic today, but in the midst of all the chaos, a nice big box of kicks and clothes from DC Shoes arrived at the office.

(L-R) Admiral Sport, JUST RELEASED Pro Spec 2.0 (WAHAHA) and the BRAND NEW Ken Block Teamworks Spartan High.

Thank you to SUPERFUCKINGAWESOME Cherice, MYFAVORITEAUSTRALIAN Jeremy and of course DC Shoes!

This is a little video we threw together from my recent autocross outing at Han Chiang College on the 13th of March, 2010.

It’s taken from my 4th run (out of 5) – it was not my smoothest/fastest run of the day, but I wanted to show you guys some of the things that can go wrong in competition!

What is autocross?

An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones, rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing.

Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower, and events typically have many classes which allow almost any vehicle, from economy sedans to purpose-built vehicles, to compete. Speeds are slower in absolute terms when compared to other forms of motorsports, usually not exceeding highway speeds, but the activity level (measured in discrete turns per minute) can be higher than even Formula One due to the large number of elements packed into each course.

Autocross events are usually held in large paved areas like parking lots or airfields. Typically, new courses are created for each event so drivers must learn a new course each time they compete. Prior to driving, a competitor will walk the course, taking mental notes, and developing a strategy to be refined upon subsequent runs.

I’d like to thank everyone who turned up to support me on the day and I’d also like to thank DC Shoes, Tommax Stickers and Northern Garage for their generous support in my racing endeavors.

Heaps of photos coming soon!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

This photo caused quite a stir amongst readers of my blog when I posted it here.

I was introduced to this stunning beauty at the DC X SBTG event by someone from Primer and to be honest I was quite shocked at how beautiful she was. She had a very friendly demeanor and was totally charming whereas I was totally at loss for words to say because she was so drop dead gorgeous! I mean my heart literally skipped a beat when I met her. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this photo does not do her justice!!!

In addition, because I was kinda caught up in the event (me having to perform and all) I couldn’t even remember her name. Oh man I suck so much.

But after I posted the photo on my blog I was flooded with emails and messages from all around the world telling me all about Jacq Yu.

Who is Jacq Yu?

Jacq Yu

There is a God and one of the best things he/she has ever done is create perfection in the form of Jacq Yu.

P.S. Jacq, it was very nice meeting you and I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Jeremy & Laura Hale!

My good friend Jeremy Hale is getting married to his lovely lady Laura Mallie next week in Palm Springs so I want to take some time to congratulate them here!

Jeremy & Laura Hale!

I wish both of you the best and may you live happily ever after!

P.S. Now hurry up and get this thing over with so you can get back to work!

Ah ha ha … just kidding, kids. Have a wonderful wedding!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

My flight to leave Manila was in the afternoon, so before I left I sat down to have a quiet lunch with Soleil from Primer.

I wanted to try the Inagiku Japanese restaurant at the Makati Shangri-La, and I’m sooOoo glad I did.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

They had uni (sea urchin) on the menu, which is like my favorite sashimi so I had to order it!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

And holy shit would you look at the price??? Uni is CHEAPER than Ika??? WTF?!?!

I nearly shit a brick when I saw the price on the menu. 350 pesos??? That’s less than RM26!

In Malaysia, less than half of what they served me would already cost like RM80-90.

Goddamn I so want to move to the Philippines, if only for the uni!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I also ordered some beef teppanyaki and when I put the first piece into my mouth I screamed out loud (and probably scared the people at the next table) because it was so fucking good!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Damn seriously this was THE BEST beef teppanyaki I had ever eaten. Hands down. And I’ve eaten a LOT of teppanyaki before.

Shit I don’t think I can even look at beef teppanyaki in Malaysia anymore.

If I could eat this every day for the rest of my life I would die such a happy man!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Anyway, after that lunch to die for, Soleil very kindly took me to the airport and it was with a very heavy heart, and very heavy, overweight baggage that I left the Philippines.

P.S. Hard partying and hard drinking boys Kieran Reilly, Bjorn Johnston and team manager Choi missed their flight back to Australia that morning. Tut tut, boys.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Woo … a whole week of work over with … now was time for everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) to let their hair down.

I was told that the unofficial after party was at Manila’s hottest new club Encore so off we went!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Encore is a beautiful club, with a great mash-up music policy. It’s roomy and not too dark, so you can actually see the people you are talking too. It designed sort of like an old-school dance hall and there is a massive LED panel behind the DJ booth, which looks so cool!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Before I continue, I have to thank Rosario Herrera, editor-in-chief of Status Magazine, for taking care of us all night. When we arrived at Encore, we were having trouble getting in because some of the skaters didn’t bring any ID and of course Kieran Reilly is only 16, but as soon as Rosario arrived, she waved her hands at the bouncers and we all got in.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Not only did Rosario get all of us into Encore, she also sat us down at her table in the VIP area (where else?)

I really have to say a BIG, BIG thank you to Rosario because she made our last night in Manila such an enjoyable one.

Maraming salamat, Rosario!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Ok … this is Arthur Elefante, who was one of the Elite Super Team from Primer that took care of us while we were in Manila.

Arthur worked hard all week to make sure all the events went smoothly and that we were all looked after.

Hell, he even did the boys’ laundry!

But now work was over and he was ready to partyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Paul Hutson was raging all night!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Mau, Steph and Yasha from Primer. Don’t be fooled by their demure appearance, these girls can really get down!

(here’s a little bit of trivia for you – I found out later that Steph is actually a very accomplished pole-dancer. What what?)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Buchi-kun and Mark. Tonight was definitely a good good night for Mark.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Everyone loves Cherice!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Rosario and another b-ball player (again, sorry I can’t remember his name)

Damn girl all you do is hang out with b-ball players! How are normal guys supposed to compete for your attention then?

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Oooh ahh … I was jacked up on vodka and Red Bull Supreme all night. I started slamming them down at Manor and just kept going at Encore.

There were times during the night that my hands were shaking and my heart was pounding so hard I thought it was going to explode. I thought it was because I was so psyched about the event and everything but later I realized it was the Red Bull Supreme doing it’s thang.

And you know what? I ended staying up for 43 hours straight.

I didn’t sleep till I got back to Malaysia!

Red Bull Supreme is THE BOMB.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

See? Everyone loves Cherice!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Arthur was sooo raging by this time. He turned into a super disco queen and attacked the dancefloor like it was 2012 (the movie) Hahaha

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I like this photo of Greg wearing Re Re’s sunnies.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

But I like this photo even more! OMG I can’t stop laughing every time I see this photo.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Here is Arthur with Soleil Sanchez, who is also a member of the Elite Super Team from Primer and took really good care of us while we were in Manila from the minute we arrived (literally, coz she picked us up from the airport)

Manila wouldn’t have been the same without you, Soleil!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Kieran spreading his lovely abo-charm everywhere. Ah ha ha

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I think Buchi-kun’s expression sums up how everyone felt by this time – super tired, but super happy.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I wasn’t tired at all because I was all jacked up on Red Bull Supreme!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

The award for “Most Raging In The Philippines” most definitely goes to Kieran Reilly.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Photos alone cannot convey how hard he partied each and every time we went out.

I wish I had videos to show you, but alas, I don’t. 🙁

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

This is how Kieran ended up every night. At one point Encore’s security wanted to help carry him out but just as they were about to lift him up, he bounced up, had another shot and went straight to the dancefloor to rage some more.

But too much partying takes it’s toll on anyone … and by the time we got back to the hotel, Kieran was like this:

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Ah ha ha … so much more shit happened but I can’t show/tell you because I solemly promised some people – what happened in Manila stays in Manila!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

After 2 weeks of writing about my whole trip to the Philippines, we have FINALLY arrived at the night of the DC X SBTG event.

This was the big night everyone was waiting for and I could almost feel the electricity in the air. The difference between this leg of the DC X SBTG Asia Tour and Tokyo/Taipei/Singapore was that not only did DC have some members of the general public and media coming to the party, all their Asian distributors were in town too, not to mention the skate team and me.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Primer transformed the inside of Manor into an “art gallery” – displaying all the skate deck art that people had submitted. On every stop of the tour, selected artists from each country were invited to customize a blank skate deck and enter a competition to win cash, prizes and a special pair of DC kicks customized by SBTG himself.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Naturally, as soon as the star of the evening arrived, media started grabbing him for interviews.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Some of the art I saw was incredible. I was really amazed at what the artists came up with and it was exciting just being in a room bursting with so much creativity.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

This guy transformed a deck into a guitar! This was definitely one of my favorite pieces from the night.

I think Sean Tierney and Ryan Hui will like this.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Like I said, amazing art. I think this was one of the winning pieces but when they were presenting the prizes I was getting ready in the DJ booth so I couldn’t see which deck won.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I loved this deck too – it was almost like a tribute to that whole old school Guns N’ Roses-style illustration.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Dino being super suave in front of the cameras. He really is the coolest cat ever and during my whole time there I never saw him lose his cool even once, no matter what was happening. Always cool and always smiling – Dino Gilladoga.

(but can someone please tell me why the host is conducting an interview with her handbag strapped to her shoulder?)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Masa and the Japanese posse strike again!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Jimmy Sun and Beck Han (not Beckham, but Beck Han) – Taiwan and Korea represent!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Renee Renee was MCing for the event (who else?) and Primer also had another girl there to translate some of the stuff into tagalog.

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

The beautiful lady on the right is Rosario Herrera, editor-in-chief of Status Magazine, the Philippines’ hippest mag. You know their shit is tight because they’ve featured What’s Good? before. Hehe

The guy on the left is a professional b-ball player in the Philippines (sorry Rosario, I can’t remember all of the ball players you introduced me to!)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Jennifer Harding and Jacky, COO of Primer – every time I saw Jacky he was smiling too. Always cool, always smiling and always super friendly!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Re Re performed a few songs from his album and Greg was so feeling it that he joined in on the chorus. This was an awesome shot by Shin Inoue (Transworld Japan)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

I was introduced to this hotness by someone from Primer. Apparently she was on the Amazing Race or something (I don’t know, I don’t watch a lot of TV but if I had known, I would have watched every episode for sure)

I swear the photo does not do her justice! She is 10x more beautiful in person!

Ermm … but I cannot remember her name at all. OMG I suck so much. Hahaha

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

So I got onto the decks right after Re Re performed.

Shin took these great shots for me since I couldn’t really take photos of myself DJing (arigato gozaimasu, Shin-chan!)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

The sound system at Manor was really hard to work with because their trebles were turned way up, to a level that hurts the ears (I don’t know why and if anyone from Manor is reading this you should definitely look at that otherwise everyone who works in your club is gonna get tinnitus)

I found this out when I was doing the sound check earlier, so I manually adjusted the levels on the mixer but it was tough! Normally I tweak the highs a lot when I DJ but I couldn’t do it at all at Manor. 🙁

Halfway through my set Bjorn Johnston came into the DJ booth and started pestering me to play a song off his iPod, which was pretty fucking annoying since he made me miss once of my cue points. -_-”

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Greg Myers came to hang out in the booth for a while too but he was totally cool and did not get in my way at all.

I hung out with a lot of cool people on this trip but I’d have to say I probably spent the most time with Greg. He is a really fun guy to be with an of course a fucking amazing skateboarder! I am seriously in awe of his talent.

If you haven’t seen him skate before please go watch this now!

We had some pretty good times in the Philippines, eh brother? 😉

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

In conclusion, the DC X SBTG party was awesome – not only from a PR standpoint for DC but it also gave a chance for young artists to get recognized for their talent.

It was also of course the best way possible to celebrate the launch of the DC X RoyalefamCircus of Mutants” collection. Mark is a crazy talented artist and deserves all the recognition that he is receiving right now.

Primer did a great job putting on this event and it seemed like they had an army of people working to make things happen.

I only wish that more members of the public had been invited to the party so they could have experienced all the cool shit we had going on.

I am extremely honored that DC saw fit to make me part of the circus (pun intended) and I hope I did you guys proud!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

This car was parked right outside Manor, which is where the DC X SBTG party was going to be held.

It’s a drift car that Primer sponsors and they had it done up in the same DC livery as Ken Block’s Impreza Version 10 (or as close as you can get considering this car is a totally different shape)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

For those who can’t tell what car it is, it’s an old school Nissan Cefiro.

In Malaysia, this car is used by a lot of amateur drifters because it’s cheap! I was kinda disappointed that there wasn’t a better car on display but I guess car culture in the Philippines is not a prevalent as it is in Malaysia.

The whole time I was in the Philippines, I only saw ONE Impreza (Manila) and ONE Evo (Cebu)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Hmm … there is something very, very wrong with this picture but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Next up: The big event!

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

The club where the DC X SBTG event was in a district called Eastwood in Manila, and 2 minutes away was a DC store so I dropped by to pick up some goodies.

All of the DC stores in the Philippines have a really good selection of product and it’s not hard to see why DC is one of the top skate/street brands in the country.

As with all the other Primer DC stores I had been to, the staff were courteous, helpful and of course good-looking.

(sorry, I was too busy trying on clothes and kicks to take too many photos)

DC X SBTG Philippines Tour

Renee ReneeMark and all the distributors came along too to check out the store too and I think almost everyone did a little shopping before the party.

I was so psyched at this time because the big party that we were all waiting for was only 2 hours away!
