DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 10) – JAPANESE FOOD PORN

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

After having loads of footwear knowledge zapped into my brain by Jeremy at the sales conference, I had to be a good tour guide and take Shandy around Hong Kong to see some sights since it was her first time in town.

We were really pressed for time so it was a mad dash from place to place as I wanted to show her as much of Hong Kong as possible in the one free day we had.

We ended up in Causeway Bay at around 2pm and because my legs were on the verge of breaking I suggested that we find a place to sit down and have lunch.

Walking around, I spotted a decent looking poster/photo of some fat uni and decided that I had to give this Japanese restaurant a try. It was in the 5th floor of some building in the street behind Causeway Bay Plaza but I cannot tell you the name of the restaurant because all the signs and namecards were in Chinese and Japanese.

We sat down and were attended to by a very helpful waitress who recommended some goodies to us and also let us know that all sushi had a 25% discount during lunch, which was fantastic to hear because the prices on the menu were already pretty reasonable.

For those who don’t know – eating Japanese food in Hong Kong is actually CHEAPER THAN EATING IT IN MALAYSIA. I know it’s hard to believe or comprehend but for anyone who has ever eaten decent Japanese food in both countries, you will know what I mean.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This plate of sushi came first – 2 portions of slightly seared salmon and one portion of slightly seared Japanese sole.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

To be honest I have never had sole in sushi form before so I was bit wary but the waitress highly recommended it and I’m so fucking glad I took her advice because JAPANESE SOLE SUSHI THAT IS SLIGHTLY SEARED FUCKING ROCKS.

I was also really pissed off because I consider myself someone who has eaten a LOT of Japanese food around the world but this had to have been of the best pieces of sushi I have ever eaten.

I regret ordering only one portion of this.

:(

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The slightly seared salmon sushi was plenty dope too! Definitely the BEST salmon sushi I’ve had in a longgggggg time.

Searing the fish slightly gives it a smokey kind of flavour (but not salty like smoked salmon) and really enhances the taste of the fish (if done right)

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The salmon looked so good I had to take another photo of it.

Sushi like this makes the shit you get in Penang taste like old tyres.

Really.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Toro … mmm … fatty tuna … another one of my favorites … also slightly seared.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Check out the crazy two-tone toro. The fish was really succulent and all the sushi was so delicious I almost cried.

Choooooo oishii desu

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This is gyu tan (ox tongue) … another dish I love to eat (whenever I can get it)

By this time the waitress was helping us to arrange our food so we could take better photos (haha)

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Kushiyaki-ed to perfection and really springy to chew on, the chefs at this restaurant really know how to get their grill on.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Next up we were served our grilled foie gras.

Foie gras is appearing more and more on menus in Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong and it was no exception at this place.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

What I will say is that like everything else we ate so far at this restaurant, it did not disappoint.

I’m convinced if everyone on the planet had a plate of this to eat, there would be no more wars and fighting over bullshit and we would have world peace.

Make foie gras not war!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

And of course … finally, the main reason why I decided to try this restaurant – the uni sashimi.

I am always uni crazy when I go back to Hong Kong.

God I love uni so much. I could eat it all day and every day without getting tired of it.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

To give you an idea of how much cheaper it is to eat Japanese food in Hong Kong compared to Malaysia – this massive serving of uni sashimi (which came with 6 tuna maki rolls aswell) cost HK$120 which is equivalent to about RM50 or USD15.

If you order uni in Malaysia (say at Kampachi at Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur or Kirishima at the Cititel in Penang) ONE THIRD of the serving above (and minus the 6 tuna maki rolls) will set you back RM80-90/HK$190-215/USD24.50-27.60.

So now you know why I am always uni crazy whenever I am back in Hong Kong?

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The quality of food at this little Japanese restaurant totally took me by surprise and i think I really lucked out on this one.

I will definitely go back there the next time I am back in town but I am sorry I cannot give you directions to it!

I’ve missed this place every day since I’ve come back from Hong Kong.

AGIP FOR HELLO KITTY

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This is either the smartest or most-retarded collab ever – Italian oil giants Agip and Hello Kitty?

Best known for collaborating with Ferrari in F1 in the 80s, Agip has traded the prancing horse for the cutey cat.

The reason why I say it is either the smartest or most-retarded collab ever is because if you are a guy who likes cars/racing you will cringe when you see this can but if you are a girl who is getting her car serviced at a workshop and don’t know which engine oil to pick and see this can you will know exactly which one you want.

Agip for Hello Kitty – I still can’t believe it.

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 9) – SALES CONFERENCE

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The morning after the fashion show was when all of DC’s APAC distributors/dealers/delegates got down to the nitty gritty task of examing the product samples for Spring 2011 and discussing/planning marketing strategies with DC.

Jeremy always puts an insane amount of effort into his sales conference presentations and everyone leaves much more well-informed because of his hard work.

I only stayed for the morning session as I had to rush off to visit Disneyland but the few hours that I was there I again learnt some amazing things about the footwear industry.

I really cherish/enjoy all of these conferences because it’s like being able to attend a school for sneakerheads.

Just so you know, we don’t only talk about the DC brand in these meetings – all things sneaker/footwear-related are discussed and the information that is shared is truly enlightening and eye-opening.

Cherice always knows what’s good!

Ms. Fredricks has been super supportive of me all along and I have to say it’s very enjoyable for me to be able to work with people who  always have their shit together.

Alrighty then … onto the kicks!

Start ‘em young … this pair of Ken Block X Huck Gee kicks is for the kids!

The ladies have got it pretty good this coming Spring too.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The Rebound is starting to be one of my favorite girls models from DC and I’m happy to see so much attention (in the form of new colorways) lavished on the ladies in 2011.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Girls have never had it so good – so stop complaining that only guys get cool kicks, k?

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

There was also an amazing assortment of flip flops on display but this one caught my eye due to the paint splatter.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This is a sexy new model in patent leather from DC called the Royal.

Remember, you saw it here first!

This is a brilliant new colorway of the Admiral, one of DC’s most popular kicks from the Life Collection. Check out that funky finish on the toe-box.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am NOT a fan of dull colors like beige/brown/bird-shit/etc but I’m really feeling this pair of Match 3s.

Fresh for the Teamworks Collection in 2011 … a SUPER sexy ALL-WHITE pair of Pro-Spec 2.0s!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

It’s all in the details … check out the white-on-white 43 (Ken Block’s number) monogram printed on the shoe.

The tongue has the Huck Gee designed Ken Block skull logo (which I love so much) stamped on it.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This is another brand new model that’s coming out in 2011 from DC – the District 4.

It’s a vulcanized kick with hidden lace-holes for skating but is also life-style orientated so no matter where and how you’re hitting the streets, this shoe will kick-ass.

I fucking love it so much and for sure you will be seeing this shoe on the feet of those who matter come 2011.

And remember remember remember … you saw all these here first!

JEREMY & LAURA’S WEDDING PICTURES

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

In April Jeremy and Laura got married in Palm Springs (if you read my blog regularly then you will know this)

I finally got sent a link to their beautiful wedding photos so I’m going to share a couple of my favorites here!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The photographers manage to capture perfectly the spirit of the occasion – which is the union of two people in love.

I especially love all the candid shots from the weekend, especially those of everyone getting ready for the big event.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

These shots are a far cry from the staid and boring wedding photos that photographers in Malaysia produce.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

I really can’t understand why photographers in Malaysia are so boring and uncreative with their work.

Just look at this shot of Jeremy – in one photo alone you can see how happy he is that in Western culture it’s the bride’s family that pays for the wedding.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Laura looks absolutely stunning in ALL the photos.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Palm Springs, baby!

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!

There are loads more photos so if you want to see more amazing photos from Laura and Jeremy’s wedding - click here.

Congratulations again to the both of you!

FAST FOOD

Everyone knows the pace of life in Japan is hectic, but did you know it’s hectic to the point that some people don’t have enough time to sit down and have a proper meal?

Hahaha … this video is so WIN and gives new meaning to the words “fast food”

BEST driving video I’ve seen so far this year!

Sugoii!

P.S. This video was filmed at the Ebisu Circuit in Japan.

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 9) – SUPPER

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Oh, did you think that my DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show coverage was over?

Haha … sorry to disappoint you.

After the show, a couple of us went to have supper together at the legendary Tsui Wah Restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong.

For the benefit of those just tuning in, left to right we have Patrick (CEO of AliveNotDead), Jerry (my best friend from college), Dr. Tierney (my favorite film critic in the whole wide world), Cherice (super stylist of the DC Fashion Show) and Shandy (who took all the awesome photos at the show – she’s just started a blog on AnD so check it out!)

I have to say now that none of us were actually hungry since DC had some awesome canapés served at the show (which I didn’t even eat because I was so full from Yung Kee) but we wanted a place to sit down and chill since it’s not something that we all get to do together very often.

I relished the chance to spend some quality time with my buddies within the “luxurious confines” of Tsui Wah.

I’m sure the first thing you noticed on the menu was the 12-inches French Hotdog.

I however, ordered the Crispy Bun served w/ Sweet Condensed Milk:

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Condensed milk is the most awesome thing ever to spread on bread/toast/buns/etc – if you’ve never tried it you really need to do so RIGHT NOW.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This bun came piping hot out of the oven and you could smell the melted butter which made it even more appetizing.

Whilst enjoying this tasty morsel I spent a bit of time looking at some of Dr. Tierney’s tattoos:

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This tat really cracked me up non-stop. It’s the “R” rating for Hong Kong movies – Category III.

That’s exactly how Dr. Tierney would be classified if he was a movie.

A 40-something white guy with the words “hot hand” inked on his arm – how awesome is that?

Hmm … I think I need to step up my ink game.

CROSSING THE PENANG BRIDGE

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

One of my favorite things about Penang is the 13.5km-long Penang Bridge.

The bridge connects the island to the mainland and allows me easy access to places like Zi Wei Yuan.

I really love driving on the bridge (especially late at night) as it gives me the feeling I am not in Penang.

Hahaha

To test the video capabilities of my DSC-HX5V, I made this short video of a recent trip I made across the bridge. Enjoy:
