QE2 PRESENTS CHINESE NEW YEAR ON THE SEA

QEII presents Chinese New Year On The Sea

Hey! Chinese New Year is just a couple of days away so I know not many Chinese people around the world are still in a working mood.

For those of you in Penang,  once you’ve got your family stuff out of the way on the 1st and 2nd day of CNY, there’s gonna be a cool party at QEII (Church Street Pier) on Saturday, 5th February, 2011.

Not only will there be amazing music from DJ Raaj (my good buddy from The Loft, Cynna Bar and Elixir in KL) there will also be a “Best Dressed Cutie” contest, with more than RM1200 in prizes to be won! And it’s really easy to enter too – all you girls need to do is turn up to QEII dressed in your best CNY outfit (don’t let all those new clothes you bought for CNY go to waste) and get snapped by the photographers. That’s it! Easy, right?

Raaj is gonna be playing some really pumping tunes – I know he has a brand new bag of goodies and he is ready to rock Penang. For sure it’s going to be the best house music on the island that night. NO cheezy pop tunes, NO karaoke songs, NO Hitz.fm … just the best house music as heard at classy places like Elixir in Changkat Bukit Bintang!

(I also heard some rumours that there’s going to be a secret guest DJ … hmm)

During CNY, most places jack up their prices but QEII are doing some good promos on beer and bottles to keep customers happy, which is great news for those who like to drink (like me) … hehe

For those of you who have never been to QEII, it’s an AMAZING venue that sits on the water at the Church Street Pier, where the Tanjung City Marina in Georgetown is. I’d have to say QEII is probably the most spectacular nightspot in Penang, and just in case you don’t believe me, a picture says a thousand words:

Is there a cooler place in Penang to party during Chinese New Year? I think not!

Great music, beautiful venue, reasonably priced booze = WIN.

See you on Saturday and Kung Hei Fat Choi!

CHRISTIAN PAUKETAT

Christian Pauketat

The main reason I was in Kuala Lumpur last week was not for the Lotus Charity Drive but because I was called down for a meeting with Christian Pauketat, Territory Manager (South/East Asia) for Lotus Cars.

Christian has been keeping close tabs on what I’ve been getting up to with Lotus Cars Malaysia so he flew in to Malaysia to meet up with me (and Oh Kah Beng of course) to talk about more cool stuff he wants to work on with us.

I’m super psyched that even Lotus UK is paying attention to what I’m doing with Kah Beng and Lotus Cars Malaysia but I’m even more excited about the things that Christian has planned for Lotus in Southeast Asia!

Christian Pauketat

Some people like to talk business on the golf course, but I always prefer a nice bar or club where we can have a drink and relax so I took Christian to my buddy Sebastien’s club – Elixir in Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Like me, Christian loves house music so coming here was a no brainer!

Sebastien arranged parking for our Lotuses literally at the entrance to the club, which caused quite a stir on Changkat Bukit Bintang. Hehehe

Thanks to Sebastien for being such a gracious host yet again.

LOTUS CHARITY DRIVE 2011

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

Last weekend I was in Kuala Lumpur for a number of things, one of which was the Lotus Charity Drive 2011.

During the Lotus Cars Club Malaysia (LCCM) annual dinner at the end of last year the club held an auction which raised more than RM22,000 for charity.

The committee decided to split the money raised and donate it to two different organizations and the Charity Drive was when the LCCM would go and present the two cheques to the respective recipients.

We congregated at Proton’s Centre of Excellence complex (where Lotus Cars Malaysia is located) at 8am before heading off to our first destination.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

This is Donald’s extremely “racy” S1 Elise. I really love his rear wing and think it suits his car perfectly.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

This is the sight that greeted us when we arrived at SJK (C) Kung Man in Serdang Lama. The kids were so excited to see all the cars and started screaming from the minute the first car arrived at the school.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

We parked side by side and got the hell out of the way as the teachers gave the okay for the kids to come and check out the cars.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

It was absolute chaos and pandemonium as a few hundred kids ran towards the cars and started inspecting every nook and cranny of the assembled cars. I had honestly forgotten how curious and inquisitive young people can be but it was nice to see how interested the kids were in the cars.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

When I said chaos and pandemonium I wasn’t kidding. There were so many kids that you couldn’t even see the cars!

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

The school also rewarded a few of their top students with taxi-rides in the cars and this little lady had the good (or bad depending on how you see it) fortune of riding in my car.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

The mock cheque was presented to the school by Dr. Samuel Choy, President of LCCM.

The money that LCCM donated will be used to pay for therapy for students who are affected by dyslexia.

And here’s a little bit of information to wrap your head around … Dr. Choy owns EIGHT Lotuses (he was driving his beautiful white Evora on this day)

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

After the presentation ceremony, we made our way to our next destination – Pusat Jagaan Horizon in Seremban.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

Pusat Jagaan Horizon is a private organization that helps autistic children and those affected by Down’s Syndrome. It is run by Madam Su Sivarajah (holding the mock cheque with Dr. Choy)

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

Madam Sivarajah gave us a guided tour of the school. Her own son is autistic and she realized that many other parents would have trouble understanding and helping their children so she started this school in order to help educate intellectually-challenged children and in the process create greater awareness for autism.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

I was very touched and moved by the hard work of everyone at the school, since they are not subsidized by the government in any way they have to rely on their own funds (i.e. Madam Sivarajah‘s own pockets) and charitable donations from people like LCCM.

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

After the tour of the school, we had a short lunch break before a crazy B-road drive from Nilai to Sepang.

Kuala Lumpur has some seriously gorgeous B-roads, but you have to know how to find them, and Lotus owners in Malaysia seem to know all of them like the back of their hand!

Lotus Charity Drive 2011

I was really glad to have participated in LCCM’s Charity Drive as I had a small hand in bringing a little joy and happiness to kids. The work of educators is often overlooked and under-appreciated but they are the ones who are helping to shape the next generation.

LCCM does a lot of work to help those less fortunate and I am proud to be part of them.

Oh and yesterday an article about our visit to SJK (C) Kung Man came out in Nanyang Siang Pau:

HEY GUESS WHAT, BARISAN NASIONAL DOESN’T NEED VOTES FROM CHINESE OR INDIANS

Since he does not need the support of Chinese and Indians, I guess Pemanis Sdn. Bhd. doesn’t need our business either?

I really can’t believe that in this day and age (especially when the Prime Minister keeps going on about this 1Malaysia bullshit) people can say shit like this in public and get away with it.

For those of you who do not live in Malaysia, this is NOT the first time that Malay politicians have spoken in condescending tones about members of other races. And guess what? Every time it happens, the offending person is never reprimanded or even made to give a public apology.

So does that mean the “top management” of our country condones this sort of behaviour?

Whatever it is, don’t put these products into your Chinese New Year hampers!
