Last Saturday, a group of Ferraris and Porsches convoyed up from Kuala Lumpur to Penang to promote Nicolas Cage’s new 3D action movie Drive Angry.
I was invited by Tom & Angeline from Zerotohundred to participate so I joined the convoy when they reached Penang and we made our way to 1st Avenue, where the film’s distributor was holding a special screening of the movie for all the car owners.
News had gotten out about this gathering of exotic cars and there was a huge crowd waiting for us when we arrived at 1st Avenue.
People were so excited that they didn’t even wait for the cars to come to a standstill before they started taking photos.
I thought it was pretty amazing because there were at least 100 people there with DSLRs not to mention all the people who were snapping photos with their phone so I’m pretty sure that thousands of photos were taken on that day.
The Exige proved to be very popular amongst the photographers and I’m guessing it’s because it was the only Lotus in attendance and the color is pretty funky!
Ahh … Germans VS Italians …
After the movie was over, we left 1st Avenue to head to the Hard Rock Hotel, but just getting the cars off the sidewalk where we parked took a while as most of the cars were pretty low and a ramp had to be made to ensure no front splitters or bumpers were damaged on the way down.
It took about 20 minutes to get all the cars down and I really have to thank Erwin for making sure my carbon fiber front lip never touched the ground (I think of all the cars there mine was the lowest)
The official hotel for this event was the Hard Rock Hotel, which was great coz that meant that we could all hang out there! We were treated to a sumptuous buffet dinner at the hotel and later on in the evening I took some of the guys to Sixty-Nine (thanks to Keith for being so accomodating and helping us to arrange parking for so many cars!)
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for me and I’d like thank Tom & Angeline again for inviting my “baby supercar” (haha) to participate!
Here’s a short video I threw together of the gathering at 1st Avenue so you can see all the cars that were there:
And of course here’s the trailer for the movie:
