The first ever Loungelicious party on the 31st of January (6th day of Chinese New Year) was the best event we’ve done in the g Lounge so far and I’d like to thank everyone for coming to support what we are doing.

The thing about all these events we are doing at the g Hotel is that there are some people who understand straight away what we are doing and there are some people who don’t. The people who understand all have a great time and those who don’t leave scratching their heads and run back to one of the many dodgy pubs/clubs they  normally frequent.

NONE of the events that we do are meant to emulate clubs in any way. Just because we have a mega big DJ booth and dance music coming out of the speakers doesn’t mean we are trying to be a club. Those of you who are more travelled than others will know that dance music venues come in many shapes and sizes and I for one always love discovering places that challenge preconceptions of what a DJ-driven venue should be like.

With Loungelicious we are asking the question, “What will happen if we turn off the lights and turn up the music at Penang’s most sophisticated and stylish lounge?” The answer is that the venue is transformed (cue Transformers sound effect) and becomes a place with a completely different mood and vibe.

The music is tailored to be pumping but still classy enough for a 5-star hotel - you have to remember that even though we’re throwing a party, we are still in pretty posh environment.

Those who love the award-winning design of the g Hotel  and love to party at the same time get the best of both worlds with Loungelicious. Those who don’t really care about the surroundings or the music and just want to go where loads of people are congregating would probably be happier at a pasar malam or Upper Penang Road.

At the end of the day we aren’t trying and don’t want to please everyone – just those who know how to appreciate the finer things in life will be good enough.

Ed took so many photos that night that I have to break them up into 2 parts. It really was a crazy, crazy night and at the end, it took 3 people to carry fucking lardass DJ G back to his room.
