PRIVATE WINE TASTING

My good friend Jimmy Wee, owner of Prestigious Wines, was in town recently for a work-related wine function and knowing that I am an alcoholic he wanted me to try some of his tasty product privately.
Well, you know good wine goes hand-in-hand with good food so I called a few mates and put together a private wine tasting at my favorite Chinese-fusion restaurant Sesame at the g Hotel.

Jimmy had a quick glance at the menu for the evening and picked 6 WMD (Wines of Mass Destruction) to match our 6-course meal, prepared by Sesame’s amazing Chef De Cuisine - Vincent Lee.

Joining us for dinner were Adam (another alcoholic) and Cindy (who’s new in town from Taiwan so we thought we’d show her a good time)
Ed was in charge of documenting the evening.

We started off with a white in the Riesling vein – a 2007 Kabinett-Nahe, which was quite simply the most delicious wine I have ever drunk in my life.
It made me feel like everything I had ever drank up to that point was shit – that’s how good it was.
I was totally ecstatic but at the same time I was utterly depressed because it seemed like I had wasted my entire life drinking piss.

After I had recovered from the Kabinett taste explosion, Jimmy brought out a 2006 Gewurztraminer which had a lovely bouquet and tasted faintly of lychees (a complete coincidence – no lychees were harmed in the making of any Gewurztraminers) – this blew my mind aswell and I just could not believe that each bottle of wine cost only RM65.00 and RM67.00 respectively.

Not to be upstaged by all the incredible boutique wines we were drinking, Vincent brought us course after course of fabulous fusion cuisine like wasabi-mayo prawns garnished with cashew nuts and home-made black-sesame tofu which were both divine.

The Shanghainese noodles in crab roe sauce made me rethink how noodles could be cooked. I love crab roe so much! Amazing, simply amazing!

Every time we tried a new wine, Jimmy played the part of sommelier perfectly, taking his time to explain to us in great detail each wine’s background and what we should expect/look for when drinking it.
I’ve met a lot of “sommeliers” before, but I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who knows as much about his/her product as Jimmy.

After dinner we still had a lot of wine left over (since we were only sipping it over dinner) so we adjourned to the G Lounge where we continued to enjoy the goodness that Jimmy had brought to us.
It really was the perfect evening: good wine, good food and good company – I really couldn’t ask for more except now I have the question:
How on Earth am I going to get by without more of Jimmy’s wines at every meal?
In my opinion he is worse than a crack dealer, since his shit is so addictive.
I need more Kabinett-Nahe! Now!

Oh, and the coolest thing about Prestigious Wines is this: Jimmy doesn’t really supply to restaurants/bars/supermarkets/etc and deals mainly with private clientele/connoisseurs so you won’t see his wines littered all over the place.
If you love wine and you want to buy from someone who knows his shit upside down/inside out, then Jimmy Wee is THE man to call!
And tell him I sent you.
