THE RITZ-CARLTON KUALA LUMPUR SUCKS

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur

During my last trip to Kuala Lumpur, Steve put me up at the Ritz-Carlton for the duration of his wedding weekend. He managed to get a really good rate from one of his friends, which was much cheaper than the Renaissance where I normally stay.

I have very fond memories of the Ritz-Carlton as I used to stay there every time I visited KL before, since the then GM, Jonathan Campbell, was a good friend of mine. He was the youngest GM of a Ritz-Carlton hotel ever at only 30 and he helped the hotel to win numerous awards and accolades during his time there. But after Jonathan transfered back to US I stopped staying there because the service of the hotel deteriorated to a standard that is worse than what theĀ Tune Hotels currently offer.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur

Anyway, after many years of not staying at the RC, I was kinda looking forward to it because I missed the old-fashioned luxury and opulence that I had experienced before.

But guess what? Nothing has changed! The service is still fucking atrocious and the staff are arrogant and aloof. They never said “Good morning” or “Good afternoon” or their trademark “Welcome back” at ANY of the numerous times I walked into the hotel over the whole weekend. I guess I didn’t look like a Saudi Arabian oil sheik and I didn’t pull up in a Ferrari which is why they probably decided that I didn’t deserve their “5-star service”

Or maybe they felt that since I was not paying for the hotel that I only deserved the amount of service I was paying for, which was zero.

Advice to everyone who works at the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur: If you don’t want to serve people, don’t fucking work in the service industry.

I think it’s probably safe to say that even if it’s free, I won’t be staying thereĀ again.

P.S. Tan Sri Dato’ Yeoh, if you happen to read this (haha) please do whatever it takes to get Jonathan back to bring the hotel back to the way it was.
