NEW YEAR’S EVE 2009 (PART 2)

The coolest thing about New Year’s Eve at Summer Beach was the fact that they (and the bar next to them) had their own fireworks show.
The fireworks were set off at 12 midnight and went on for more than half an hour.

Fireworks are something that you can probably only see at such a close distance in Penang due to the fact that no one on the island seems to care that it is illegal and on every big holiday fireworks will be let off everywhere around the island.

We were sitting almost directly under the fireworks and boy was it a jaw-dropping sight to behold. I’ve seen fireworks many, many times before, but never from this close a distance.

Ed had to walk about 50 metres away from Summer Beach in order to get these shots, but we were sitting so close that I could feel the heat from the fireworks.

I’d have to say that I was completely mesmerized by every bang and pop. I can’t explain it but seeing gunpowder flying into the sky and exploding into a shower of sparks gets me each and every time.

Damn the show went on and on and just when you thought it was over, another big bang lit up the clear night sky and had everyone ooh-ing and aah-ing.

Sometimes it’s the simplest things in life that are most beautiful.

The fireworks show was the icing on the cake to a perfect evening for me and my friends.
Ed’s photos are great but you really had to have been there to feel the amazing vibe on the beach.

I hope I can do the same thing this year!
