Holy shit! Avatar has grossed over USD1 billion in just 17 days!

Less than 3 weeks into its release the movie has already become one of the 5 highest grossing movies of ALL TIME.

(Just to put that into perspective – it took The Dark Knight it’s entire theatrical run to reach USD1.0019 billion in ticket sales)

Highest grossing movies ever (as of 4 Jan 2010) -

1. Titanic – USD1.8429 billion
2. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King – USD1.1191 billion
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – USD1.0662 billion
4. Avatar – USD1.0188 billion
5. The Dark Knight – USD1.0019 billion

No doubt helped by higher-priced 3D cinema tickets this is still an extraordinary feat for any movie. At the rate this movie is performing Avatar is projected to bump itself up to the #2 spot, making James Cameron the director/producer of the 2 highest grossing movies of all time.

And you know what?

The movie hasn’t even opened in China yet.

If you haven’t watched it already – GO NOW! Avatar was probably the best movie I watched last year apart from Brüno. Hehe
