HENNESSY ARTISTRY @ VOODOO PENANG

Last Thursday, the massive Hennessy Artistry circus hit Penang again and this time they brought Australian dance music duo Vandalism with them.

Vandalism is one of my favorite producers and their tracks are always a part of my sets when I DJ so to say I was really looking forward to this event is an understatement.

I was given a whole bunch of VIP invites by Voodoo so I called up my mates and we got there at about 10pm, by which time it was like this inside:

The promise of free booze was too much of an attraction to Penangites and Voodoo was packed to the rafters. When you tell Penangites that there is free anything, EVERYONE will come. A lot of people didn’t even look like they were there to party or listen to the DJs.

Hennessy managed to hire some cute bartenders to serve the thirsty hordes and these girls went through bottles and bottles of V.S.O.P. so quickly you might have thought they were pouring it down the drain.

I was told later that more than 300 bottles of V.S.O.P. were consumed by all the freeloaders BEFORE 11PM.

There were loads of girls at the party … LOADS!

This was the VIP wristband, but I found out that it didn’t really matter coz there wasn’t really a VIP area at all.

People were just running around everywhere – it was pandemonium and chaos to the max.

Yo yo … bumped into Jennifer and Evonne there … you will always see these 2 at every party in Penang.

A lot of people left the party at 11, since that was when the free flow ended, but my mates and I stayed on and opened a couple of bottles since Vandalism hadn’t performed yet.

It’s kinda sad that some people were only there for the free booze, but I guess that’s just how some Penangites are.

This is my hairstylist Jason … if you love/hate my hair you know who has been responsible for the past 10 years or so!

Both of them are gonna get really mad but I have to say it – Jackson and Jennifer look really cute together!

Hmm … but does Jackson bat for the other team? Weird things happen when people get drunk …

On the whole, I was bitterly disappointed at the event, since Vandalism performed for less than an hour, and I didn’t even know when they were on since no one made an announcement and they didn’t perform ANY of their hit songs like Never Say Never and Smash Disco.

The other DJ played a mish-mash of tracks that weren’t particularly exciting (if anything, people like Jason got quite annoyed because some of the songs were REALLY old – like around 10 years old)

However, the band that played at the beginning of the night, Kyoto Protocol, were dope so the night wasn’t a total loss!

It’s been a long time since I went to a major event like this but it’s sad to see that event management standards have dropped so much since we were actively doing it. Nowadays it’s all about hype and flash but without much thought and consideration about the flow and mechanics of the event.

Of course this had nothing to do with Voodoo at all since everything was handled by Hennessy but I really expected Hennessy to have a MUCH better event management team.

Disappointed!
