BIO

BadBoyBen is a DJ/Producer who is constantly pushing boundaries and blurring the lines between music, fashion, lifestyle and geography. He is not only well-known as a DJ but also a designer, tastemaker and is one of Southeast Asia’s most influential bloggers.
Ben hosted Malaysia’s biggest dance music show, MOVE, on 98.8FM, from 2003-2006. 98.8FM is one of Malaysia’s largest radio stations and MOVE had a weekly audience in excess of 1.6 million listeners. Making this transition from club DJ to radio personality allowed Ben to reach a much bigger audience and garner an even greater fan base. It would be a gross understatement to say that his influence has always reached far beyond the walls of any club.

On the DJ front Ben has blown up dancefloors in Hongkong, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Barcelona and many other cities around the world. He is a DJ who is highly rated by all those who have heard his cheeky dirty house sets. His energy infects his music through and through, and his performances are always an exciting ride from beginning to end. He has constantly gained respect and praise from peers with his technical ability and eclectic selection that never ceases to surprise punters and professionals alike.
Ben was the first Asian DJ to perform at English superclub Gatecrasher’s London residency at Heaven nightclub. That in itself was a monumental achievement that further cemented his stellar reputation as one of Asia’s top dance music personalities.
He graced the cover of KLue magazine in 2004 with indie singer/songwriter Pete Teo. The two became fast friends and led to Ben producing Pete’s sell-out concert at the Actor’s Studio in Kuala Lumpur.
To salute his achievements in the field of dance music, Ben was named Malaysia’s First Superstar DJ and one of Malaysia’s 17 Most Outstanding Individuals in 2005 by one of the country’s most-respected lifestyle guides – FACES Magazine.

Ben’s impeccable musical taste has also seen him being commissioned to design musical environments for many retail and commercial spaces – the most high-profile of which so far was the award-winning g Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.
Charged with creating a signature sound for every outlet and area of the hotel, Ben designed a modern nu-jazz/electroncia policy to suit the avante-garde and minimalistic interior that has had visitors to the hotel raving and critics applauding over and over. The sound now is widely referred to in Penang as the “g” sound.
In addition, Ben designed the sound system in the hotel’s grand lobby to deliver a warm and rich “audiophile” sound that sounds great no matter which corner of the lobby you are in.

Apart from being one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent DJs, Ben is also the founder of What’s Good? – a multi-disciplinary creative agency specializing in brand strategizing and relationship marketing.
What’s Good? also exists as a boutique in Kuala Lumpur, and serves as a contact point for savvy scenesters to be exposed to the young, fresh and urban lifestyle that What’s Good? has become synonymous with.
