KEN BLOCK X HUCK GEE PRO-SPEC 2.0

DC Shoes X Ken Block X Huck Gee Pro-Spec 2.0

I gave you guys a preview of this pair of shoes way back in February but now one of the stars of Ken Block’s Gymkhana 3 is here in my hands!

DC Shoes X Ken Block X Huck Gee Pro-Spec 2.0

A few subtle changes have been made from the original design, but I think they’re all good and make the shoe more striking.

Looks just like Ken’s 650hp Ford Fiesta! Woop woop!

The skull logo that Huck Gee designed for Mr. Block is so awesome.

I REALLY love how the drips have been executed on the shoe. Street to the max.

DC is so killing it right now and this is one prime example of how they are doing it!

This is without a doubt, the coolest pair of racing shoes ever designed by human beings.

Super duper thanks to my homegirl Cherice for hooking me up! *muaks*

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 13) – BYE BYE HONG KONG

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The morning of my departure from Hong Kong I still had to get some work out of the way so I sat down with Cherice for a quick meeting before I left for the airport and she showed me some top secret shit which I wish I could show you but I cannot.

But this I can promise you – DC will be absolutely KILLING it in 2011!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The flight back was insane, I’ve never experienced so much turbulence before and I was so fucking scared that my last words on this planet were going to be, “Oh shit.”

However, I guess I’m still destined to make mischief on Planet Earth for a little while longer as I’m still here.

It was a fantastic trip and I’d like to thank Jeremy Hale and DC Shoes for giving me the chance to do the music for their Spring 2011 Fashion Show and also for taking such good care of me in Hong Kong – you guys are really the coolest company to work with! Thank you so much for the support you have shown me all along.

I’d also like to thank Gary Parsons for taking us to dinner at Nobu, which was an unforgettable experience.

I hope through these few blog posts that I have written, you – the reader, have had some idea of the amazing time we all had in Hong Kong!

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 9) – SALES CONFERENCE

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The morning after the fashion show was when all of DC’s APAC distributors/dealers/delegates got down to the nitty gritty task of examing the product samples for Spring 2011 and discussing/planning marketing strategies with DC.

Jeremy always puts an insane amount of effort into his sales conference presentations and everyone leaves much more well-informed because of his hard work.

I only stayed for the morning session as I had to rush off to visit Disneyland but the few hours that I was there I again learnt some amazing things about the footwear industry.

I really cherish/enjoy all of these conferences because it’s like being able to attend a school for sneakerheads.

Just so you know, we don’t only talk about the DC brand in these meetings – all things sneaker/footwear-related are discussed and the information that is shared is truly enlightening and eye-opening.

Cherice always knows what’s good!

Ms. Fredricks has been super supportive of me all along and I have to say it’s very enjoyable for me to be able to work with people who  always have their shit together.

Alrighty then … onto the kicks!

The ladies have got it pretty good this coming Spring too.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The Rebound is starting to be one of my favorite girls models from DC and I’m happy to see so much attention (in the form of new colorways) lavished on the ladies in 2011.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Girls have never had it so good – so stop complaining that only guys get cool kicks, k?

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

There was also an amazing assortment of flip flops on display but this one caught my eye due to the paint splatter.

This is a sexy new model in patent leather from DC called the Royal.

Remember, you saw it here first!

This is a brilliant new colorway of the Admiral, one of DC’s most popular kicks from the Life Collection. Check out that funky finish on the toe-box.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am NOT a fan of dull colors like beige/brown/bird-shit/etc but I’m really feeling this pair of Match 3s.

Fresh for the Teamworks Collection in 2011 … a SUPER sexy ALL-WHITE pair of Pro-Spec 2.0s!

It’s all in the details … check out the white-on-white 43 (Ken Block’s number) monogram printed on the shoe.

The tongue has the Huck Gee designed Ken Block skull logo (which I love so much) stamped on it.

This is another brand new model that’s coming out in 2011 from DC – the District 4.

It’s a vulcanized kick with hidden lace-holes for skating but is also life-style orientated so no matter where and how you’re hitting the streets, this shoe will kick-ass.

I fucking love it so much and for sure you will be seeing this shoe on the feet of those who matter come 2011.

And remember remember remember … you saw all these here first!

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 9) – SUPPER

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Oh, did you think that my DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show coverage was over?

Haha … sorry to disappoint you.

After the show, a couple of us went to have supper together at the legendary Tsui Wah Restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong.

For the benefit of those just tuning in, left to right we have Patrick (CEO of AliveNotDead), Jerry (my best friend from college), Dr. Tierney (my favorite film critic in the whole wide world), Cherice (super stylist of the DC Fashion Show) and Shandy (who took all the awesome photos at the show – she’s just started a blog on AnD so check it out!)

I have to say now that none of us were actually hungry since DC had some awesome canapés served at the show (which I didn’t even eat because I was so full from Yung Kee) but we wanted a place to sit down and chill since it’s not something that we all get to do together very often.

I relished the chance to spend some quality time with my buddies within the “luxurious confines” of Tsui Wah.

I’m sure the first thing you noticed on the menu was the 12-inches French Hotdog.

I however, ordered the Crispy Bun served w/ Sweet Condensed Milk:

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Condensed milk is the most awesome thing ever to spread on bread/toast/buns/etc – if you’ve never tried it you really need to do so RIGHT NOW.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

This bun came piping hot out of the oven and you could smell the melted butter which made it even more appetizing.

Whilst enjoying this tasty morsel I spent a bit of time looking at some of Dr. Tierney’s tattoos:

This tat really cracked me up non-stop. It’s the “R” rating for Hong Kong movies – Category III.

That’s exactly how Dr. Tierney would be classified if he was a movie.

A 40-something white guy with the words “hot hand” inked on his arm – how awesome is that?

Hmm … I think I need to step up my ink game.

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 7) – YUNG KEE

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Because Jimmy Au and his crew were so efficient, we had a little time before the show started so Cherice, Shandy and I went to Yung Kee Restaurant for a quick dinner.

Yung Kee Restaurant has been around for 70 years and is best known for its Roasted Goose.

It was won countless culinary awards (Goddamn the first FOUR pages in its menu are a list of the awards they’ve won)

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Hong Kong and now I try to make a trip there every time I am back.

Lucky for me, Yung Kee was just around the corner from Volar!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Yung Kee’s signature roasted goose. Underneath is some super sweet honey-roasted pork. It’s shit like this I miss most about Hong Kong!!!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The crispy skin of the duck is where its at … ahhh …

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

In another 3 seconds I’ll be in heaven!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Cherice doesn’t eat meat so she missed out on the amazing roasted goose. Luckily for her, everything else that is served at Yung Kee is 5-star Cantonese cuisine.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Shandy didn’t miss out though!

On our way back to Volar I spotted this random sticker stuck on the wall. There are vandals everywhere nowadays! Hahaha

DC SPRING 2011 FASHION SHOW IN HK (PART 6) – GETTING READY

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Before you start thinking that I went to Hong Kong just to eat good food, I’m gonna show you some work photos!

This is the entrance of Volar in Lan Kwai Fong, arguably Hong Kong’s most famous “drinking” area.

Lan Kwai Fong is so popular and always so packed that many years ago some people got trampled to death in the street outside since they slipped and fell but people kept moving and couldn’t stop or move out of the way.

Errmm … and that’s Jimmy Au at the bottom of the stairs. Hahaha

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Volar has a room filled with carousel horses. Don’t ask me why. But I think they’re pretty cool.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

These walkie talkies are very important because the staff in Volar always need to communicate with each other. e.g. “Look out! That short motherfucker with the big glasses is coming over to the bar again, hide the vodka!”

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Here’s the catwalk that Red Agency set up for the show. Lots of DC branding around so you won’t forget what event you are attending!

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

Me waiting for the technician to arrive so I can do my sound check.

Sound checks are always very important to me since every venue’s sound system is different and it would be foolish for any DJ to assume that they can just rock up to any club and play like they do at home.

But many DJs are like that and hence my opinion of many DJs is that they are very foolish.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

My office for the evening. Volar uses Turbosound speakers which is extreme overkill if you ask me.

It’s not a very big venue and putting Turbosound speakers in Volar is like putting a Dodge Viper engine in a Mini Cooper.

I’m pretty sure that the speakers get used to less than 40% of their maximum volume normally, otherwise everyone there would go deaf.

And yes, I have my laptop with me, but no I am not using Serato or DJing with my laptop. I still prefer to carry around a bag of CDs but I consider that a major leap from when I used to lug massive record boxes and bags halfway around the world.

DC Spring 2011 Fashion Show/Sales Conference in Hong Kong

The stage is set, my sound check is done, the models are getting hair and make-up done so we are almost ready to start the show!

But first … I have to eat.

🙂
