2 weekends ago, my buddies from the Blue Jackets Society were in Penang to celebrate the first anniversary of their car club.
The venue of choice was the Hard Rock Hotel and this is where the boys normally stay when they come to Penang.
For those who don’t know, the Blue Jackets Society is a supercar-only car club that is made up of some of the most successful businessmen in Malaysia.
It was started last year by Erwin Azizi and Ray Hong, who are both incredibly passionate about cars/motorsport but felt that Malaysia lacked a proper “gentlemen’s” car club where community and friendship amongst like-minded individuals takes place over politics and status.
During the past year, the Blue Jackets have been very active, participating in many charity drives, long-distance drives, track days and more than 30 weekend drives – so basically there is something going on almost every week for them!
I think the thing I like most about this car club is the fact that their member actually DRIVE their cars, as opposed to just parking them at the valet in Pavilion.
I know a lot of supercar owners that don’t push their car anywhere near its limits, but take this matte black Murcielago SV for example – it was covered in dirt and dead bugs from the drive from KL-Penang so you know the driver was having a blast.
Damn this car looks so mean!
The 1st anniversary celebration consisted of a fun-filled awards dinner, where members were presented with awards based on stuff they had done in the previous year.
I was late due to a prior engagement so I could only catch the last part of the dinner, but I could tell that it was a fun-filled event for all involved.
After the dinner was over, I spent some taking some photos in the car park so you guys can see what an awesome group of cars was assembled at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Hmm … this Gallardo looks familiar …
Left, right and center, no matter where you turned there were supercars staring at you.
This F430 was red during the previous trip … I guess the owner wanted a meaner look and it does look very sinister (in a good way).
Best of the British. It’s always nice to see Din’s DBS.
Like I said, supercars everywhere you turned your head.
This is Erwin’s GT3RS. I never get sick and tired of seeing his car as one look and you can tell this was a purpose-built race machine (check out the roll-cage peeping out of the rear windscreen).
Which is your favorite?
Erwin and his lovely wife Angela.
This is Ray, Erwin’s partner-in-crime. The two of them have really done and amazing job with the Blue Jackets over the past year!
Dato’ David Gurupatham is one of the friendliest people I know and it’s always a pleasure to see him.
Conemaster Jackson, my buddy Johnny Bob and Amanda.
Amanda is a friend who I’ve known for many, many years but I rarely see even though we’re both from Penang coz she’s a very busy lady. 😉
I’m really happy for the Blue Jackets that they’ve passed this milestone, and I hope they have many more anniversaries to come.
I know they have a lot of crazy things planned this year so I wish them all the best for 2012!
